Avon/Canton Chamber Update

| November 1, 2020

Dear Canton Chamber Member,

It is never easy to move on or say goodbye, but in the case of the Canton Chamber moving over to become part of the Avon Chamber–well that makes goodbye easier.  It’s really not a goodbye though, rather it’s, “Hello Neighbor!”

In a 65-3 vote the Canton Chamber membership overwhelmingly voted to dissolve our current organization and endorse the plan presented by the Board of Directors.  Under the newly branded Avon/Canton Chamber of Commerce members will experience more services, better advocacy and more networking opportunities.

The Executive Director of the Avon Chamber is Lisa Bohman, a lifelong resident of Canton whose family has been deeply rooted in town for nearly a century.  Lisa will be a wonderful advocate for Canton’s businesses.  In addition, I will remain on the new board along with our outgoing Executive Director Gary Miller. You may still contact us at any time with suggestions or concerns.  In May 2021 we will add another Canton businessperson to the Avon/Canton Chamber Board.

Beginning in December 2020, all former Canton members will be asked to join the Avon/Canton Chamber.  If you have paid your dues, your membership will rollover, and your renewal date will remain the same.  If your membership fee was due in October or November and has not paid, you can join the Avon Chamber at their slightly lower membership rate.

Many thank you’s need to be said especially to our long-time outgoing staff Gary Miller and Sue Budde for their commitment and service to our members and board.  Thank you to our many Past-Presidents and Board members, who have served with distinction.  I would also like to thank our current Board of Directors, who had the courage and foresight to make a tough but good decision.

A big thank you to the businesses and members of the Canton Chamber of Commerce for your years of participation and support.  Bigger is better, and great things are ahead for our small businesses, Route 44, and Collinsville members in the new Avon/Canton Chamber of Commerce.

Finally, thank you to First Selectman Bob Bessel, CAO Bob Skinner, Superintendent of Schools Kevin Case and Chief of Police Chris Arciero.  Your attendance made our early morning Board meetings interesting and informative.  Your attendance was always appreciated.

For me, I am still around and look forward to hearing from you or seeing you around town!  For now, onward and upward as the saying goes.

Lou Daniels, outgoing President
Canton Chamber of Commerce
